Freelance press card: a press card for freelance journalists

Freelance journalists can get a press card in two ways: the UK Press Card through a gatekeeper such as the NUJ, CIoJ or BAJ if journalism is their profession and main work, or an association card such as the FJA press card if they publish regularly but work part-time, online or across borders. The FJA card costs €95 for 12 months, requires no membership and is checked before printing.

As a freelancer you have no newsroom badge to fall back on. A verifiable press card gives press offices, organisers and interviewees a quick way to confirm who you are – and a commission letter from an editor tells them who you are working for.
